We are now Equine-Assisted Therapy Certified
We want to publicly congratulete our owner Jose Manuel Mulero for completing the Equine-Assisted Therapy Certification.
The Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (DECEP-UPRB) of the University of Puerto Rico of Bayamón (UPR-Bayamón), in alliance with the Carrusel Foundation, offered the Professional Certificate in Horse and Nature Assisted Therapies: Equine Therapy.
The program has more than 260 theoretical-practical hours.
As part of the program, participants acquired knowledge and skills as a therapeutic, educational and social resource.
“For the DECEP-UPR Bayamón it is a great satisfaction to offer this course that contributes to the training of new professionals in the therapeutic field of horse riding. Our goal is to offer excellent training and qualification for those people who want to learn and train in this very important discipline, in order to contribute to improving the health and quality of life of people through therapies assisted with horses and nature,” explained Dr. Carlos F. Rosado, director of the DECEP-UPRB.
It should be noted that those who enroll in the course are able to acquire knowledge of equine ethology and horsemanship to apply it to the therapeutic environment. They will also learn about the functional diversities of people who benefit from horse-assisted therapies. In turn, they will learn to evaluate the environment and the participant; and to develop intervention plans and apply therapeutic principles based on theories and research, among others.
Other knowledge that course participants acquire is the process to select and develop a therapy plan based on the principles of hippotherapy, therapeutic riding, therapeutic turning, social equine therapy, and horse-assisted learning.
